What's all this for, then?
By the way, the subject of that paper was completely inspired by Tumblr…

funsizebytes:

… specifically the Pray for Obama thing from last week. If there’s interest, I can post a summary, but here’s a couple of salient points:

May his days be few; may another seize his position.

That was the verse in question. Now either it was plucked out of thin air and people had no idea what it was about, which makes them pretty shitty Christians who can’t even read the Bible… or they did read the following verses which talk about his children being orphans and his wife widow, which makes them pretty shitty Christians for praying that.

So your choices are: malicious or stupid. Frankly, both are possible. With most people, they just looked up that one verse (or it was written in the email they received) and if they don’t like Obama, they thought it was funny.

You’re exactly right, tj. But this made me think immediately of 1 Timothy 2, which has a more appropriate prayer for those in government, one taken from the new covenant.

Taken from The Message:

The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.

That includes government you like and government you dislike.
